Fill in the Blanks Family Tree

Types of Family Trees
Fill in the blanks family trees come in a variety of formats. Each format displays different information in different ways.
Pedigree Chart
Also known as an ancestor tree, the pedigree chart tracks the direct ancestors of an individual. It begins with the individual, then records vital information on the two parents, the four grandparents, the eight great-grandparents, etc. Usually, the chart will reflect four or five generations. It can be cross referenced to other pages when you have information about additional generations.
Hourglass Tree
This tree is in the shape of an hourglass and lists both the ancestors and descendents of a person or couple. It is particularly helpful to see the relationship between relatives of a common ancestor. The only drawback is that there may not be enough slots for very large families.
Descendent Tree
The reverse of a pedigree chart, the descendent tree traces only the descendents of an ancestor. These charts can be quite extensive for an ancestor alive 200 years ago. It is helpful, as it does record all the members of a particular generation. This makes navigating through third and fourth cousins much easier.
Information on a Family Tree
Almost every family tree chart documents the birth, marriage, and death dates and locations for a person. The tree may also list who completed the form and the date of completion. This is helpful, as some of these trees may get shared with multiple cousins.
